Dear Parents/Guardians of the incoming Freshman Class:

We are excited to share with you an opportunity for your incoming high school Freshman. For several years we have offered a "Jump Start" class to transition 8th grade students to the high school, in a smaller class setting with fewer distractions. We are happy to offer this opportunity again this summer under a new name of "The Freshman Edge."

Here is what your freshman can expect from their experience in "The Edge."

  •  Two teachers (at least) from different subject areas
  • Core area topics such as: Physical Science, Modern World History, English and Math
  • Introduction to several high school staff members, including teachers, administators, club advisors, counselors, and coaches
  • Oreintation to the building
  • Hands on projects, experience, book work, assessments and in class presentaions, most of which can and should be completed in the allotted class time
  • Development of nessecary skills for high school such as: organization with a planner, proper use of class time, self advocacy, responsibility and follow through

Our goals for the students in "The Edge" are that they acclimate themselves to the high school setting, recognize the expectations of being a high school student and begin developing the skills necessary for academic and social success at the high school level.

With completion of the time and academic requirements your student will earn half credit, which is the equivalent of an entire Semester class (18 weeks) in just a few weeks. Plus they will be in a forward position for starting the new school year in comparison to students who do not take advantage of this opportunity.

Scheduling can be done in Skyward beginning on April 14, 2014 or by contacting your counselor. This summer we are offering teo sessions: 7:35 a.m.-11:25 and 11:45 a.m.-3:35 p.m. and the dates are June 10, 2014 to July 2, 2014. If you register and decide thatt you would like to take part, please just come to one of the summer sessions on the first day of class and we will get you registered. Attendance in summer session courses in critical and students are only allowed to miss 6 hours of class time before being removed from the class.

We look forward to the opportunity of working with your incoming Freshman in order to get them an "Edge" on thier high school experience!

Thank you for your time and consideration of "The Freshman Edge" program.
